Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a Title IX Intake and Informal Resolution Specialist to support the Office of Institutional Equity, Effectiveness & Success (“IES”). The incumbent will support a range of administrative and compliance functions, including work in Title IX and gender equity. As a member of the Office of Institutional Equity, Effectiveness & Success (IES), the Title IX Intake and Informal Resolution Specialist will advance the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to actualizing these values. The role reports to the Title IX Coordinator and Director of Outreach and Support.

Responsibilities
  • Outreach to meet with individuals who have experience prohibited conduct and assist in connecting them with University resources, supportive measures, and resolutions.
  • Provide individuals with continuing support throughout the investigative process and serve as a resource to parties and their advisors regarding the Title IX and Sex-Based Misconduct processes.
  • Develop and assist with implementing informal resolution processes and protocols for complaints under the University’s Title IX and Sex-Based Misconduct policies.
  • Document communications in accordance with department standards and in compliance with applicable University policy.
  • Serve as a resource for the VCU community in reporting and responding to reports of prohibited conduct that occur on and off campus.
  • Attend and assist with Case Coordination and other meetings.
  • Organize and maintain Title IX case records within the Office case management system.
  • Work in collaboration with IES staff to transition intake matters to investigators or assist with informal resolutions.
  • Develop and facilitate education and outreach to members of the VCU community including presentations and conversations about University policy, procedure, and response.
  • Assist in development of protocols, procedures, and policies for report response and resource coordination.
  • Contribute to University prevention efforts on topics of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating & domestic violence, and stalking.
  • Provide referrals and resources to individuals affected by prohibited conduct.
  • Retain documents and files according to the university’s records retention schedule as well as the Office records retention schedule.
  • Collaborate with the EO and ADA units within IES to ensure accurate and appropriate handling of cases.
  • Research issues and contribute to projects as needed.
  • Assist with responding to outreach from the VCU community for consultation and following up on reports to ensure access to IES services.
  • Keep and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Hiring Standards
  • Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and a commitment to doing so at VCU.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • At least two years of job-related experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or education in an appropriate discipline.
  • The ability to navigate difficult situations with grace and empathy.
  • A strong commitment to ethics, to advancing institutional values, and to social justice.
  • Ability to work successfully in both an in-person and remote environment.
Preferred hiring standards
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations surrounding Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act (Title IX), the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2013 (VAWA), and related legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in an academic setting.
  • Experience working in a public institution.
  • A strong customer service orientation.
  • Proficiency in Maxient or a comparable electronic case management system.
  • A Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline or education and relevant experience that equates to a Master’s degree
Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000
