ACADEMIC DIRECTOR AND CLINICAL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF
PUBLISHING
Center for Publishing
NYU School of Professional Studies
The Center for Publishing at the NYU School of Professional Studies
(NYU SPS) invites applications for the combined role of a
full-time, non-tenure faculty position and Academic Director for
the Center’s MS in Publishing degree and Summer Publishing
Institute. The position will begin August, 2022.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Center for Publishing and
Applied Liberal Arts, the Academic Director will be responsible for
the management and development of the academic curriculum for the
Masters in Publishing and the NYU Summer Publishing Institute,
oversight and ongoing communication with clinical and adjunct
faculty, academic and advising staff, development and
implementation of academic policies and procedures,
management of student services and co- and extracurricular
programming, and collaborate with the Associate Dean on ongoing
communication with the Center for Publishing Board of
Advisors. Faculty appointments are for nine months, with an initial
two-year contract that is renewable based on performance. Academic
Director appointments are concurrent appointments that run for 11
months and are independently renewable annually based on
performance. The rank of the faculty position will depend on
experience and qualifications. Full-time faculty are active
contributors to the research and pedagogical missions of the School
of Professional Studies and are expected to teach three degree
courses per semester. This teaching load will be reduced for the
Academic Director. In addition to teaching, each full-time faculty
member assists with student advising and activities, curriculum
planning, applied research, recruiting and mentoring adjunct
faculty, and nurturing industry relationships.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience or evidence of the
potential for success in teaching a diverse population of students,
including first generation students, and students from diverse
linguistic, cultural, racial, and ethnic groups from around the
world. The Center for Publishing currently has a particular
interest in recruiting faculty with backgrounds in publishing,
particularly book publishing at a senior level, and administration
and oversight of divisions, programs and events. A master’s degree
is required; doctorate or other terminal degree preferred.
