TITLE: Director of Student Health Services
DEPARTMENT: Student Engagement and Campus Life
REPORTS TO: Vice President for Student Engagement and Campus Life

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Director of Student Health Services provides quality health services for students presenting as physically well and those presenting with illness or injury. The Director assists in providing students, faculty, and staff with health education and wellness programs. The Director develops, manages, and coordinates the
administrative functions of the University Health Center, including facility and budget.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- The Director of Student Health Services provides overall leadership and management for the Office of Student Health Services; oversees the facility compliance of the Student Health Center.
- Develops, implements, and adhere to policies and procedures for Student Health Services and
- Manages and maintains accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with HIPPA and FERPA standards; use of electronic medical records system.
- Directs the activities of staff in the daily operation of Student Health Services to include patient care, health education, health-related consultation, wellness, and administrative support.
- Delivers quality health assessment and treatment of ill or injured students; makes appropriate referrals to local health care providers and local health facilities as necessary.
- Develops programs and activities to educate and inform students, faculty, and staff on various health and wellness initiatives, not limited to health fairs, blood drives, campus-wide invited lectures, and presentations.
- Participates in Student Orientation sessions to acquaint incoming freshmen and transfer students with the services, policies, and procedures of Student Health Services.
- Collaborates with the Residence Life and Admissions offices related to immunization standards,
- Maintains inventory and requisitions for medicines, appropriate treatments, medical and office
- Collaborates with the Coordinator of Accessibility Services on legal compliance, trends, and best
students with documented disabilities or pre-existing physical or mental health diagnoses have a
successful transition to the University.
- May serve as a member or consultant of the University’s emergency response team, the Campus
Assault Response Team.
OTHER DUTIES: After-hours consultation; Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Registered Nurse; Master’s Degree in Nursing or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible student health-related experience preferably in higher education; including a minimum of at least three (3) years of staff supervision or preceptor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Leadership, administrative, and program management ability related to health services.
- Ability to prepare and analyze an operating budget.
- Ability to provide effective and confidential health care services in compliance with HIPPA and FERPA requirements.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of health-related and emergency patient care, including First Aid, CPR, and use of AED units.
- Knowledge of health education programs, policies, and trends.
- Knowledge of regulations and protocols governing the care of and services for persons with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Skill in analyzing requests for reasonable accommodations and developing and implementing plans for the provision of reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to supervise and train staff, including hiring, scheduling, training and development, and
- Ability to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate programs and activities.
- Ability to represent the University to outside agencies and organizations including public health
- Knowledge of community referral resources; with specific attention to resources for the uninsured.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Knowledge and experience in treating minority and diverse populations; ability to interact with varied academic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of crisis management and crisis intervention.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
