The University is seeking to hire a full-time Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the area of Digital Culture and Social Media Studies.  Candidates should have (1) a PhD in cultural studies or media and communication studies; (2) a good track record in creative commons, digital culture, social media practices, feminist and youth perspective; (3) a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals of good international standing and/or university presses; (4) a good track record in competitive grant applications in the relevant areas; and (5) knowledge of creative commons and platform coops are preferable. 

The appointee will join the Faculty of Arts (https://www.ln.edu.hk/arts/) and will be expected to conduct research projects and publish outputs with high impact, teach courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and participate in academic and professional activities.  In particular, the appointee is expected to apply for external competitive grants, and commit to teaching excellence and active services to the Faculty and the University.  Candidates are required to provide evidence of their research records and quality teaching.  A proven record in academic leadership and institutional service would be a distinct advantage. Short-listed candidates will be requested to provide a sample course syllabus in the relevant field before the interview. 

General Requirements 

For appointment as Associate Professor, candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience and a sound track record in research and scholarly activities.  For appointment as Assistant Professor, candidates should have relevant teaching experience, a good research record and must demonstrate good potential in publishing high quality papers.  

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may normally lead to longer-term appointment with possibility of consideration for substantiation.
