Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, Research Accounting Services, the RAS Sr. Financial Analyst will be responsible for project related activities in the areas of Research Award Set-up to include analysis of Sponsor award documentation to determine budget specifications, Cost Share requirements and appropriate revenue recognition. Collaborate with various University departments to ensure research award attributes and restrictions are communicated appropriately to all parties and appropriately set up in the financial system. Responsible for establishing the appropriate access to various systems throughout the University to allow for proper management of research awards. Responsible for running and analyzing data integrity reports and related clean up activity. Provides support to Effort Reporting, F&A rate proposal development, Fringe rate development, annual audits, and training projects.

Essential Functions
  • Perform grant establishment and accounting in compliance with Uniform Guidance, CASB, GAAP, OMB A-21, OMB-A110, various governmental agency and other sponsor regulations and institutional policies.
  • Provide documentation support to Associate Director provided to audit agencies, sponsors, principal investigators, project directors and staff, department administrators and other customers with accurate, complete, and timely financial information and reports.
  • Provide information on sponsor restrictions, compliance, and cost allowability, budgets, salaries, general expenditures, and related matters to audit agencies, sponsors, principal investigators, project directors and staff, department administrators and other customers.
  • Develop and maintain electronic databases and systems; perform a liaison function with University accounting information systems and research customers.
  • Extract meaningful information from the accounting system for analysis and reporting; become adept at extraction of data from Banner through Hyperion; analyze and conduct systematic reviews of data for research related activities.
  • Provide support in Banner effort reporting systems including analysis, troubleshooting issues and process improvements initiatives.
  • Provide expertise related to regulatory and policy issues, fiscal management, and budget development. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and expertise in federal, state, local and other agency regulations, and policies to assure compliance. Remain knowledgeable of current changes in federal regulations, OMB Circulars, FAR's, and Cost Accounting Standards governing grants.
  • Analysis of research award terms and conditions to appropriately set up research funds in the system and provide the appropriate access for various University personnel.
  • Review existing process flows to incorporate any necessary changes to departmental processes and procedures. Update policy documentation to ensure compliance with new or revised federal/state/local or university policies. Identify affected parties, draft appropriate communications, and update applicable presentations.
  • Analyze requests for information and develop, evaluate and modify programs and procedures to improve financial set up, financial reporting and invoicing in accordance with Uniform Guidance, CASB, GAAP, OMB A-21, OMB-A110, governmental agency, other sponsor regulations and institutional policies.
  • Monitor and reconcile facilities and administrative cost charges and employee benefit charges to projects.
  • Actively analyze and support in the completion of the annual Uniform Guidance federal compliance audit and other sponsor audits.
  • Be familiar with the responsibilities of all functional areas of the accounting group and cross-train to provide team support and uninterrupted coverage when a team member is out of the office. Assist with special projects and perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or research related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in research administration, database development and administration, accounting and financial reporting experience preferred
  • Experience at a non-profit or academic research institution is highly desirable
