Position Purpose
The Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Lab (CANlab), directed by Professor Tor Wager, studies the effects of expectations, social and interpersonal context, self-regulation, and learning on the human brain and physiology. We are looking for a motivated, high-performing individual to join our team as a full-time Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will perform a variety of laboratory tasks and apply established methods, procedures, and techniques to fulfill the lab’s research objectives.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- One years of relevant laboratory/ research experience.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
- Ability to manage complicated neuroscience experiments involving behavioral and imaging collection.
- Ability to learn quickly and pay close attention to details.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to synthesize and accurately summarize data.
- Ability to adjust to changing plans, schedules and deadlines.
- Knowledge of research and psychological constructs.
- Competence in computer database and spreadsheet applications such as Excel.
- Familiarity with common computing and data storage systems for maintaining data e.g., git management.
- Ability to apply scientific computing techniques to common and non-standard scientific questions.
- Familiarity with popular neuroimaging analysis packages including SPM, FSL, and fmriprep.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques, especially using Matlab, Python, or R.
- Proficiency in Bash shell scripting.
- Proficiency in basic Web Development (e.g., HTML ).
- Proficiency with multiple operating systems (OSs) i.e., Mac OSX, Windows, and Linux
- Training in research statistics.
- Experience designing neuroscience/psychology experiments in Python (Psychopy) and/or Matlab (PsychToolBox).

Research Experiments
- Recruits and assesses human participants for experiment eligibility
- Sets up and assists with research protocols and experiments under the general guidance of the Principal Investigators and other senior investigators in the laboratory; may have primary responsibility for independently setting up, performing and troubleshooting less complex experiments.
- Observes experimental results in progress and maintains written records of activities and observations; applies past experience and precedents to identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Anticipates unexpected findings and assists in troubleshooting techniques; reconciles results that are disparate from anticipated findings; re-runs techniques as necessary.
- Reports experimental results to the Principal Investigator and other senior laboratory personnel and assists in their analysis and visualization of data
- Collaborates with the Principal Investigator in investigating and developing modifications to techniques and documents all new techniques developed in the laboratory.
