The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at BSU currently houses undergraduate and graduate programs. These include a BS in Computer Science. We also offer a variety of degrees in Mathematics. The Department offers effective programs of study providing students with a core of knowledge in computer science. The department is fully committed to equity and to diversity in our faculty and students and has started a departmental program that helps faculty advance their own understanding of how they can provide more inclusive mathematics and computer science teaching.

Responsibilities of the Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics include:

• Teaching a normal load of 3 to 4 courses (12 credits) per semester including upper and lower division courses.
• Leading the Applied Mathematics Emphasis.
• Qualified candidates in the areas of numerical methods, differential equations and mathematical modeling are especially encouraged to apply.
• Maintaining a program of scholarship within the discipline.
• In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities and committee work, contributing to a program of scholarship within the discipline, working with other faculty members on curriculum development, computer science outreach, participating in departmental student-centered activities, and acting as an academic advisor.
• Participating in professional development.
• Participating in Program and University assessment as well as equity and inclusion activities.
• Contributing to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
• Contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support BSU’s Shared Fundamental Values.
• If needed, designing and delivering courses with a Learning Management System, such as D2L.

Minimum qualifications for this position include:

• PhD in Mathematics or closely related discipline as of the starting date for the position.
• Experience or credentials in teaching a wide range of lower and upper division Mathematics courses including numerical methods, differential equations, and mathematical modeling.
• Experience in working in collaborative and/or interdisciplinary settings.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience in using inquiry based or collaborative pedagogies.
• Experience teaching both lower- and upper-level undergraduate mathematics courses, including applied mathematics courses
• Experience using various forms of technology in the classroom.
• Experience engaging students in undergraduate research.
• Demonstrated knowledge, interest, or experience working with students and/or colleagues from multicultural and diverse backgrounds.

Lake Bemidji State Park and its miles of navigable trails is located directly across the lake from BSU, and the Buena Vista Ski Area — just 12 miles north of campus — offers downhill skiing and BSU-sponsored student transportation in the winter months. Further, the Mississippi River Headwaters is a mere 45 minutes from Bemidji.
