Job Summary

The Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations is a member of the Institutional Advancement/ ASU Foundation, Inc. team and is an experienced fundraiser, with exceptional networking and proposal development skills. The focus of this position is to assist with the management of a portfolio of major corporate and foundation prospects; to plan, organize, and implement strategies to maximize philanthropic investments from local, regional, and national corporations and foundations; and to work with faculty and institutional advancement colleagues on a range of projects and disciplines.

This is a newly created position, and the Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations will be reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving; salary will be commensurate with experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Ability to learn appropriate levels of information about a broad range of academic disciplines and interdisciplinary areas.
• Knowledge of all facets of the advancement process, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; knowledgeable in corporate and foundation giving and fundraising best practices.
• Knowledge of all facets of the proposal development process, including prospect and project research and proposal creation/editing.
• Working knowledge of development software for prospect management and basic financial software for fund management.
• Willing to work at Institutional Advancement/ ASU Foundation, Inc. offices in Lorman, MS and have the ability and willingness to travel nationally when required.
• An advocate’s belief in the vision of Alcorn State University’s Institutional Advancement/ ASU Foundation, Inc.
• Understanding of major issues in philanthropy and ability to learn Institutional Advancement/ ASU Foundation, Inc. issues quickly.
• An entrepreneurial and pro-active leadership style with a proven ability to create opportunities.
• Able to work in a collaborative team environment as well as autonomously to meet fundraising goals; a problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible, and effectively manage complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to foundation and university business and confidential prospect information.

Essential Job Functions

• Researches corporations and foundations to identify potential new funders.
• Communicates with funders by phone, emails, written materials, and social media, and travels to meet with funders regionally and locally as needed or assigned.
• Monitors the acknowledgement and recognition process to ensure that donors are properly and appropriately acknowledged.
• Works with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving to complete internal reports on the team’s progress, accomplishments, and budget.
• Develops, writes, and submits email inquiries, letters of inquiry, concept summaries, reports, and/or other requests for corporate and foundation engagement in collaboration with faculty, staff, and other advancement staff.
• Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

Qualifications

• Minimum bachelor’s degree is required.
• Three to five years of experience in development and demonstrated success in corporate, private foundation and major gift fundraising.
