Job Summary
The Budget Specialist will perform a variety of functions in support of Title III specifically analyzing and monitoring Title III Activity budgets and assisting with the daily management of Title III Programs.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
• Must be able to set and manage multiple priorities, and respond quickly to changes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students and administration within the University as well as external contacts.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
• Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent customer service skills.
Essential Job Functions
• Monitors activity budget spending and revise budgets based on actual expenditures.
• Communicates occurrences of possible over- and underspending on activity budgets.
• Provides assistance in the compilation of data and prepares reports required by the Department of Education for the fiscal year’s budgetary planning.
• Tracks Title III expenditures for individual activities and maintains continuous communication with Activity Directors to ensure objectives are met.
• Prepares an excel expenditure file of Title III activity budgets.
• Prepares detailed budget charts, tables, and spreadsheets, as needed in support of budgetary analyses.
• Compares excel expenditure file with Banner to alleviate discrepancies.
• Analyzes budgetary expenditures for compliance with approved budget narrative.
• Exports budget data from Banner to prepare end-of-year budget report.
• Assists in processing of budget revisions.
• Assists in the monitoring of funding requests sent to the Title III Coordinator and implementation of resource allocations.
• Manages and reports open purchase orders.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least one-three (1-3) years of related administrative and/or budget experience required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience working with Federal grants such as Title III Strengthening Grants.
• Prior experience with Ellucian Banner preferred.
