Job Summary
The University seeks a visionary Dean who creates a pervasive culture of transformation and agile delivery, leveraging the School’s human and fiscal capital to boldly implement new programs, built on the evolving needs of the healthcare workforce and simultaneously positions it as both a national and international School of prominence.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Essential Job Functions
As a senior member of the Provost’s Executive Leadership Team and an integral member of the Deans’ Council, the Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and provides service-centered, proactive and dynamic leadership.
The Dean also aligns the School’s academic and research agenda with the University’s strategic goals to ensure continued accreditation.
Building on the strong legacy and goodwill from the past, the Dean of the School of Nursing, with dedicated mentor-ship and inclusivity, translates such vision and strategy to actionable plans that advance current and new academic programs while increasing and securing additional research funding from external sponsors.
The Dean strategically collaborates with schools within the University on multidisciplinary initiatives of meaningful societal and economic impact, to enlarge the academic and research landscape. In this transformative journey, over the next few years, the Dean is also expected to sustain the growth of the School, through successful fund-raising and by being a skillful steward of resources and is expected to graduate diverse and culturally competent nurses.
The Dean will display deep commitment to students, faculty, community and the nursing profession by developing individual and collective potentials, while increasing the School of Nursing’s network of external partnerships with healthcare providers for clinical placements, collaborative research and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, distinction in research and outstanding scholarship along with evidence of professional achievements appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor in the School of Nursing.
Experience with and impact of multiple methodologies of instruction on students is an advantage.
Administrative experience as department chair, associate dean or equivalent level with involvement in fiscal planning & budgets, ability to lead and manage faculty groups, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, leadership and participation in shared governance are required.
A leader with undisputed integrity, courage, transformation, simultaneously exhibiting the ability to be a bold risk-taker and capacity builder is required.
Manifestation of effectiveness in written and oral communication is also a key requirement.
Licensing and Certifications
Current licensure to practice nursing in the state of residency and eligibility for licensure in Mississippi.
Professional certification and/or licensure in a specialty area in nursing is encouraged.
