Job Summary
Serves on the university’s accounting staff which is committed to the values of transparency, accountability, and responsibility. The incumbent will analyze revenue and expense accounts to ensure that our state operating budget is maintained.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
•Knowledgeable of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
•Knowledgeable of Governmental Accounting Standards Board
•Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel and Word
•Ability to analyze financial data and effectively communicate findings to management
•Interpret federal and state laws and regulations
•Maintain integrity and confidentiality
•Possess strong analytical skills
•Show initiative that promotes growth and development of the university
•Effective time management skills
•He/she must possess sound judgement and be able to communicate effectively
•The incumbent must maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling sensitive data
•He/she must be able to work independently
Essential Job Functions
•Authorize payments and reconcile payroll withholdings/insurances processed by the Payroll Office and the Human Resources Departments.
•Assist at year-end in the preparation of the GASB reporting and Note Disclosures.
•Perform monthly activities to reconcile the general ledger and bank accounts, including but not limited to Proprietary Fund. Follow up on discrepancies to find cause and create journal entries to correct errors.
•Prepare journal vouchers and obtain approval for entries necessary to update general ledger for un-posted activity. Maintain files for audit.
•Perform interdepartmental journal entries
•Manage petty cash accounts
•Review general ledger activity to determine incorrect fund, organization, program, and account code usage; propose corrective entries; key into the system and forward for approval.
•Reconcile Title IV funds submitted by Financial Aid.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in business and finance or related field. An MBA degree is preferred.
