Job Description:

The Assistant Dean of International Students is a full-time, exempt position that supports
international students and coordinates the College's compliance with immigration regulations as
Primary Designated School Official.

Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Fulfill all duties of PDSO as required by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program/SEVP serve as a resource and consultant on student immigration issues (e.g, F-1 visas, DACA, TPS)
  • Provide one-on-one advising for F-1 students on immigration issues
  • Partner with Gateways Orientation to plan annual International Student Orientation and facilitate students' transition and success
  • Serve as member of Deans' Advisory Group to facilitate the academic advising of international students
  • Train and oversee the work of the Designated School Officials/DSOs
  • Communicate resources and policies regarding international students to internal and external constituencies (e.g., parents/families, U.S. government agencies)
  • Advocate for and highlight the needs of international students through workshops and programming with campus partners (e.g., Athletics, Campus Ministry, Dining Services, faculty, Student Affairs) to promote a campus culture of welcome and belonging
  • Use Oracle/PeopleSoft and SEVIS to maintain F-1 student immigration records
  • Lead campus committee to develop and implement annual "International Education Week"
  • Manage the SEVP recertification process (bi-annually)
  • Maintain website
  • Manage budget
  • Reports to the Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion



Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Must have DSO experience with major aspects in the SEVP life cycle of F-1 students at the undergraduate level (e.g., issuing initial I-20s, SEVIS transfers, SEVIS registration, authorizing CPT and STEM/OPT requests, termination, correction requests)
  • Proficiency in SEVIS
  • SEVP requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency to be approved as PDSO.
  • The ideal candidate will also have experience with student programming (e.g., orientation, affinity groups), admissions, or academic advising
  • Must be available/on-call for students' immigration needs. Some weekend and evening work will be required
