Job Description:


Reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Administration, Faculty Development and Research, Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs; the Director of Academic Administration is responsible for leading, directing, strategically planning and developing, implementing, and coordinating faculty-facing academic administrative processes and initiatives, including:

  • Direct personnel process for full-time and part-time instructional personnel actions, including recruitment, appointment, reappointment, tenure, promotion, CCE, termination, and leaves
  • Lead the central administrative support, and coordinate School-based Business Managers, in meetings across all scales of the College (i.e., Department, School, College, and President) associated with faculty appointment, reappointment, tenure, and promotion
  • Strategize, coordinate, and troubleshoot in the development, planning, review, assessment, and continuous improvement of faculty personnel processes
  • Strategize to improve faculty position management, in partnership with AVP for Budget & Finance, Dean’s Offices, and HR
  • Advise Provost, President and General Counsel in matters involving academic personnel
  • Direct policy and procedure implementation of the College-wide electronic Personnel & Budget platform, in order to comply with PSC Contract, CUNY, and local College governance
  • Implement and develop training materials around the faculty-facing aspects of online systems used by the College for managing faculty actions and activity reporting
  • Record and manage committee appointment terms for College P&B, SARC, CARC, Joint Committee On Research, and Independent Units & Library P&B committee
  • Ensure instructional personnel actions are appropriately provided to the Office of Human Resources in preparation for the Committee on Faculty, Staff, and Administration
  • Establish and monitor progress toward shared goals and objectives in the Office of Academic Administration
  • Develop and implement best practices in all areas of responsibility and oversight
  • Oversee and monitor staff responsible for reviewing, recording, reporting, implementing policy and monitoring compliance with Faculty Workload
  • Design and produce reports in all areas of responsibility


The Director works in strategic partnership with and is responsible for maintaining effective working relations with senior staff in many College and University Offices, including:

  • Office of the Provost
  • Office of Human Resources
  • Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance
  • Office of the General Counsel and Labor Designee
  • Office of the Vice President for Information Services and Dean of the Library
  • Schools Deans and Business Managers
  • Department Chairs
  • CUNY Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Bachelors degree required, advanced degree in higher ed administration, human resources, or related fields strongly preferred. Minimum eight years of experience required in positions of progressive responsibility suitable to appointment at the Director level. Experience working with faculty highly desirable.
