Job Summary:

Marist College welcomes applications for the position of Data Center Manager as a team member the Information Technology Division. The Data Center Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the day-to-day Data Center activities; providing plans and/or coverage for planned or unplanned time away; Data Center budget planning & management of IT Infrastructure Support; uptime of all Marist production systems and services, including mainframe, LAN-based, systems and applications; the ability to troubleshoot typical IT infrastructure issues and work with hardware vendors to resolve outages.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of Data Center Management experience
  • Proficient in data report writing and knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy while demonstrating the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to handle situations with tact, persuasiveness and diplomacy. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, students, and vendors
Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for facilities including infrastructure planning and maintenance for Data Center, remote Data Centers, and off-site storage areas, including environments, physical, security and safety
  • Supervises work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, reviewing work, and ensuring quality standards
  • Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training, developing, and reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff
  • Plans organizational structure and job content
  • Coordinate vendor activities including preventative maintenance
  • Monitor production services for potential problems, provide first-line problem determination and execute corrective action
  • Proactive in defect and repairs
  • Be on-call at all times for emergencies which cause service outages
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for the Office of Safety and Security
  • Using ITIL framework to manage inventory and life cycle of hardware, systems, services, supplies and assist with budget planning
  • Have a thorough working knowledge on critical procedures and assist with development of new ones to accommodate new technologies
  • Ensure reliable recovery of all IT systems in the event of a disaster
  • The application of systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine hardware, software, or functional specifications
  • Work closely across multiple departments on IT-related initiatives and projects
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of systems and process
  • Provide graceful reaction to high-priority requests with little or no notice, while providing clear documentation and follow-through
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education is a plus
  • Experience and knowledge of ITIL framework

Hybrid-Remote Eligible: This position is located in Poughkeepsie, New York and is hybrid-remote eligible with periodic on-campus work at the supervisor’s discretion.

Relocation: It is College policy to reimburse eligible newly hired full-time administrative staff members for reasonable expenses incurred in relocating to the area. To be eligible for reimbursement, new employees must move a minimum of 50 miles from their present home; must move within the first year of hire. Generally, the College will reimburse eligible moving and relocating expenses up to $7,000.

The Data Center Manager position includes a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package*. Benefits for this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • 3 weeks of paid vacation. 4 weeks of paid vacation beginning in the 6th year of employment.
  • Unlimited paid sick time and unlimited paid personal time for use at the supervisor’s approval.

  • 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
Tuition Benefits:
  • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
  • College pays 100% tuition only
  • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution
*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the College.
