Job Summary:

Marist College welcomes applications for the position of Director of Data Science and Analytics as a team member in the Data Science and Analytics Department in the Information Technology Division. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology, this position is responsible for the management, development, and deployment of modern machine learning, advanced statistical, algorithmic, data mining and visualization technologies and services. The Director of Data Science will work with the leadership of the College to provide insights into improving institutional effectiveness by addressing issues such as recruitment, student performance, retention and alumni engagement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and six years of experience
  • Deep knowledge in statistical and data mining techniques
  • Familiarity with the integration data collection systems and data analysis/reporting applications
  • Experience building custom ETL and data analytics pipelines using tools such as Python and R, Pyspark, Java, or BASH
  • Experience in predictive modeling methods and techniques
  • Experience using visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau
  • Familiarity with machine learning
  • Knowledge of software development principles
  • Must be a team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills and have experience working with customers across teams
  • Eagerness and self-starter to leverage and apply the latest research to real problems
Essential Functions:
  • Lead the design, development, documentation, analysis, creation and testing of computer systems or programs, including prototypes
    • Develop the software tools necessary for facilitating access to data and insights, analyzing data, evaluating models, disseminating insights and automating such tasks which positively impact on institutional effectiveness and success
    • Implement programs to support analytics and data science activities to include R, Python, Pyspark, Java, BASH and other languages as appropriate
  • Interpret data, trends, and algorithms for the College’s executive leadership and communicate with multiple stakeholders to enable data-driven decision-making
  • Manage and guide data science/analytics staff
  • Understand the data flow of processes, technology and campus operations to deliver data integration and analytics services
  • Set a strategic direction for data identification, collection and qualification activities
  • Serve on committees as assigned by upper management
  • Provide after hours on-call support for critical issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Please note: This position is fully-remote eligible or may be located in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Relocation: It is College policy to reimburse eligible newly hired full-time administrative staff members for reasonable expenses incurred in relocating to the Hudson Valley area. To be eligible for reimbursement, new employees must move a minimum of 50 miles from their present home; must move within the first year of hire. Generally, the College will reimburse eligible moving and relocating expenses up to $7,000.

Compensation & Benefits:

The Director of Data Science and Analytics position includes a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package*. Benefits for this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • 3 weeks of vacation
4 weeks of vacation after 5 full years of employment
  • Unlimited paid sick time and unlimited paid personal time for use at the supervisor’s approval.

  • 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
Tuition Benefits:
  • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
  • College pays 100% tuition only
  • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution
*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the College.
