Job Summary:

The Director of Assessment will provide support for the core operational assessment activities of the Office of Institutional Research.  Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research, this position will support internal and external assessment reporting demands through data collection, management, and reporting.  This position will also assist in the analysis of institutional data for strategic planning purposes, will communicate key data through various online and reporting platforms, and will play a critical role in the institution’s work toward regional reaccreditation.  The successful candidate will deliver clear, accurate, and informative results that help to transform data into actionable knowledge and show strategic thinking in the collection and acquisition of data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Carry out the systematic collection, analysis, and reporting of assessment data to support and encourage effective assessment practices within Academic Affairs and contribute to the overall culture of assessment on campus. The Director of Assessment will maintain files and databases documenting all aspects of assessment plans, related implementation activities, and progress towards achieving assessment goals. Experience with learning outcomes assessment, program assessment, survey research methods, and the extraction and manipulation of data from a variety of systems is critical to achieving success. By working closely with appropriate campus constituents, this position will strengthen current assessment policies, practices, and systems through a centralized process.

• Maintain the University’s outcomes assessment process to ensure compliance with accreditation standards (especially those of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education). This aspect of the work includes maintaining an assessment web page and a series of University-wide meetings; prompting and managing an annual process of outcomes assessment and a system for review; as well as reporting and publicity of these results. The University’s assessment operation involves college, disciplinary, and general education outcomes (including those involved with the University’s Core Curriculum), as well as administrative outcomes. An understanding of Middle States accreditation standards, especially Standards III and V, is crucial. The Director of Assessment may be asked to be involved in the preparation of Middle States reports and the Middle States visits, as well as equivalent information and analyses for other accreditors.

• Contribute to the creation of regular internal reports that track various aspects of student, faculty, and program performance. The Director of Assessment will design, test, and generate reports that support decision-making across campus.

• Design, collect, extract, and manipulate data from the University’s administrative system. The Director of Assessment will query against University and external information systems to develop requested data sets in support of internal and external reporting needs. The ideal candidate will be able to work with data from inception to analysis. This includes generating data from the planning stage, to designing and running queries, and then evaluating the data. In many cases, examination of data will require using statistical tools for inferential and predictive analyses.

• Participate with the University-wide faculty course evaluation process administered through Anthology’s Course Evaluation product. The Director will support this project by producing any needed assessment-related reports through the extraction and preparation of data from this third-party system.

• Assist with and/or manage select internal assessment projects, such as University participation in national surveys like NSSE or a University instrument, and other ad hoc assessments. The Director will be expected to develop higher-order multivariate analyses in these data and to make recommendations. These tasks will require the analyst to work with other offices within Academic Affairs, Student Services, Enrollment Services, and Finance, as well as some faculty committees and interest groups.

Required Qualifications:

• Five or more years of relevant experience in an office of institutional research, institutional effectiveness, assessment, or other areas where multivariate data analyses and research methods are performed.
• Proven ability and experience in developing automated and sustainable reporting solutions.
• Experience in University assessment operations.
• Exceptional analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to create, deploy and maintain large amounts of data, and to present those data in a concise, cohesive manner.
• Strong conceptual and problem-solving abilities; strong deductive and inductive reasoning skills.
• Experienced in conducting and interpreting statistical results with working knowledge of statistical software (SPSS, SAS, R, etc.)
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at a given time; ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines; flexible and responsive in working relationships.
• Strong organizational, leadership and management skills very much desired.
• Master’s degree required.

Desired Qualifications:
