Post Doctoral Fellow - Numerical Methods for Finite Element Discretization

Location: Clemson University

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Clemson University is inviting applications for one postdoctoral position. This non-tenure-track position has a 9-month contract, with potential renewal annually to a max of three years and includes some summer support. The anticipated starting date is August 2022. Excellence in research and teaching for this position is expected.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Timo Heister in the area of numerical methods for finite element discretizations. This position is partly funded by NSF to work on specific projects. For this, expertise in open source software development, high-performance computing, linear solvers (multigrid), C plus plus, CFD, and visualization is desired and should be stressed in the cover letter. Knowledge of the deal.II library (dealii.org) and/or ASPECT (aspect.geodynamics.org) are a bonus.

In addition to the research as described above, the successful candidate will teach one course per year. There is also the option to earn additional salary in the summer for either research or teaching a summer course contingent on availability of funds and teaching needs of the school.

The school contains two divisions: Mathematics and Statistics and Operations Research, and includes the areas of algebra and discrete mathematics, data science, comp. math., OR, probability and mathematical statistics, and pure and applied analysis. QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field by the time of appointment.
