The University of Alaska System (UA) is the only public university system in Alaska, comprised of three separately accredited universities and a system office.
Reporting to the System President, the Chief Finance Officer is responsible for the management and operation of the financial enterprise of UA. The CFO provides executive leadership and is the primary spokesperson to communicate the financial condition and financial results of UA. The CFO is a key change leader that aims to adapt and transform the institution to meet the Board’s goals and strategic objectives. The CFO develops financial and operational strategies, and designs and monitors control systems to safeguard assets, report accurate financial results, use resources efficiently, and achieve returns on investments. The following functions fall under the leadership and general management of the CFO:
Controller: financial accounting, cost accounting, financial systems, treasury, system office budget, debt
Risk Services: business continuity, emergency preparedness, claims management, insurance and serves as the Chief Risk Officer
Internal Audit: internal audit reports directly to the Board of Regents, but administratively to the CFO
Procurement and contract services: purchasing, solicitations, and departmental procurement cards, and serves the entire UA System
Education Trust of Alaska: a national college savings plan operating in accordance with Internal Revenue Code Section 529
Endowment: CFO is a key member of the Endowment Investment Committee
