Job Summary/Basic Function



The McAuley School of Nursing is now accepting applications for a Nursing Simulation Coordinator. This position will plan, create, coordinate/teach, evaluate and conduct simulation experiences for nursing students, in collaboration with the nursing faculty, designed to convey content knowledge and ensure skill building to prepare the nursing student to practice in all levels of care. This person will also train and mentor faculty on evidence-based and current practices for simulation and work towards and maintain SSH (or similar) accreditation for the simulation laboratory. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a welcoming environment for a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities:
• Investigate or develop simulation scenarios for best practice and evidence-based practice, including integration of QSEN competencies, CHSE/CHSOS certification practices and SBAR. Maintain compliance with the MO Board of Nursing Minimum Standards.
• Prepares the overall simulation environment and all supporting equipment/supplies, moulage and documentation (charts, orders, meds, etc.) for the entire student experience. Ensure simulation curriculum congruence with term and course learning objectives.
• Resets lab spaces post-simulation to ensure optimal functioning of lab space and equipment.
• Operates simulation mannequins, clinical equipment, and computer software/hardware. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator functions. Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, mixing and editing. Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently. Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion.
• Conducts faculty and staff training on the use of simulators/simulation to include training and mentoring in developing scenarios, facilitation of simulation and how to correctly facilitate debriefing with students based on best practice and simulation accreditation standards.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment and conduct routine inventory updates and communicate needs to supervisor. Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning, repairing, assuring that all equipment is always maintained and in good working order. Maintain record of repairs required and completed. Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems. Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals. Participate in technical training as necessary.
• Develops, administers, and evaluates effective assessment tools utilized before, during, and after the simulation experience. Teach and evaluate students as needed and in support of faculty using best evidence-based simulation strategies and tools.
• Plan and coordinate simulations for interprofessional learning experiences across the Walker College of Health Professions and the University.
• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment; able to work evenings/weekends on as needed basis. Attend orientations, training, staff meetings, and faculty meetings as needed/scheduled. Attend graduation ceremonies as requested/needed.



Minimum Qualifications



• MSN from a regionally accredited college or university with specialization in concentration area taught (nursing)
• Knowledge of academic content area as evidenced by earned graduate degree in field of nursing
• Knowledge of Maryville University procedures for nursing programs and the Walker College of Health Professions
• Knowledge of best evidence based practice accreditation and certification simulation standards for teaching and learning
• Knowledge of federal, state, local nursing issues
• Knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, and Hazardous Waste Disposal
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA
• Minimum of 2 years of professional nursing experience working with/in healthcare organizations
• Minimum of 1 year working with nursing simulation in an educational setting
• Strong organizational skills
• Proficiency in MS software applications, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet and database applications
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
• Participates in programmatic governance
• Supports student-centered simulation experience using evidence based best practice standards



Preferred Qualifications



• Doctorate from a regionally accredited college or university with specialization in concentration area taught (nursing)
