The Learning Center at SUNY Cortland has two full-time, eleven-month, professional tutoring position available immediately. The Learning Center is a comprehensive, centralized academic support program serving SUNY Cortland students. Major Responsibilities
  • Tutor students in study skills, time management, and math, writing, and/or science in both one-on-one and group settings
  • Co-coordinate and co-supervise one of The Learning Center’s programs
  • Conduct workshops and presentations
  • Formally and informally assess student learning in tutoring, programs, workshops, and presentations
  • Interact regularly with faculty, staff and students
Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge and understanding of language arts, science, and/or math pedagogy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with people of diverse backgrounds at all levels of the organization
  • Technical skills for effective use of student technology platforms and daily operations
  • Knowledge of Supplemental Instruction, Peer Tutoring, Online Tutoring, and/or Peer-Led Team Learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to the director of The Learning Center Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience tutoring in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience with or evidence of understanding of Supplemental Instruction, Peer Tutoring, Online Tutoring, and/or Peer-Led Team Learning
Preferred Qualifications
  • Tutor certification
  • Three or more years’ tutoring experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience coordinating Supplemental Instruction, Peer Tutoring, Online Tutoring, or Peer-Led Team Learning
  • Evidence of skills and background in language arts, math, and/or science pedagogy
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Microsoft Office software experience
  • Data collection experience
