Brief Description of Duties

The Admissions Recruiter (International) functions as an International Admissions Counselor and is a critical role of ensuring that international students experience successful transitions and integrations into their respective learning programs at the University of the District of Columbia. The Counselor is the reliable source of information to all stakeholders. Responsibilities include providing accurate visa and immigration information, facilitating outreach programs, assisting with culture and life adverse impacts, evaluating undergraduate applications and foreign academic credentials for admission, participate in decision-making processes for admissions, and develops reports. Evaluates programs for effectiveness to meet UDC goals and optimize customer experiences and service delivery. Follows Federal regulations and UDC policies and procedures. Bilingual or trilingual preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Counsels, supports, and works closely with international applicants, students, advisors, agents, and others about the admission process and requirements, support service and outreach programs, and professional development.
  • Interprets complex rules and regulations set forth by the educational system of the District of Columbia, U.S. Customs & Immigration, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Education, as well as other educational and security agencies o national and international levels.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness, assesses outcomes, and develops improved programming to achieve goals, complete cost analyses, for programs/events.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates international undergraduate applications from the point of submission to student enrollment to criterion and requirements. This includes accurately assessing tuition, fees, financial-aid, transfer guidelines, scholarship information to ensure compliance with state, federal, institutional policies, and procedures.
  • Collects and evaluates necessary application documents including residency documentation for legal determinations, transcripts and other support documentation for degree equivalency and grade point averages to ensure all undergraduate admission criteria has been met.
  • Responds to and monitors all application-related inquiries, update all files and electronic records with accurate data using system technology required to make informed admission decisions.
  • Schedules appointments in specific cohorts. Regularly and timely follow-ups to ensure accuracy of information, statuses, and admission decisions.
  • Develops and implements strategies as outlined in the international cohorts' alignment to increase yield rates. Plans and executes special projects in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the office.
  • Keeps apprised of general college admission and special requirements to ensure UDC and students remain in compliance with current regulations.
  • Coordinates and participates in on- and off-campus tours and events, recruitment efforts, orientation management, and outreach activities with international students, high school counselors, community stakeholders, embassies, other influencers, and other special yield activities.
  • Develops routine and ad hoc reports that include conversion, data analysis and projections, special programs, and professional development.
  • Clears and effectives verbal and written communications skills.
  • Maintains sand monitors applicant database.
  • Ability to travel and works a flexible schedule. Adheres to University policies and procedures regarding travel and procurement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Three years of experience in an international higher education setting. Preferably in areas of assessment, academic advising, recruitment and/or career interest assessment/advising.
  • Bilingual or trilingual, Spanish preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved may be considered.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a 'satisfactory background investigation' is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
