Full-Time Faculty Position Opening (Orchestral Conducting)

General Information:
The Music Department at the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is seeking highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor (or above) of Conducting position.

Bearing the hallmarks of tradition and innovation, NTNU has long been recognized as one of Taiwan’s elite institutions of higher education. Duties:
Conduct and rehearse the NTNU Music Department Orchestra; teach graduate conducting seminars; teach undergraduate conducting courses; teach applied conducting students at graduate level; andfulfill other departmental needs as required. The appointee will be expected to: demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, create an innovative curriculum for a broad range of students of varied identities and backgrounds who seek to explore a range of educational opportunities and career pathways; recruit and retain students of exceptional promise, and develop and maintain a visible national and international profile as a performer and a pedagogue. The appointee will also be expected to: supervise graduate students’ thesis, attend faculty meetings, and serve on faculty and university committees as appropriate.

Required Qualifications (at least one of the following):
1) Doctoral degree in orchestral conducting
2) International conducting competition award recipients
3) Assistant professor or higher ranking

Professional Experience (at least one of the following):
1) Five years (or more) of experience conducting professional symphony orchestras (Please submit copies of certificates with your portfolio.)

2)Three years (or more) of experiences conducting college orchestras and teaching conducting coures at departments/graduate programs of music at universities. (Please submit copies of the Contracts of Appointment with your portfolio.)

2) Certificates of international conducting competition award recipients.

An official copy of terminal or highest-degree diploma (Note: For overseas degrees, the doctoral degree diploma, academic transcripts, and proofsof related experiences should all be authenticated by the local R.O.C.   4. An official copy of the teaching certificate issued by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan (optional)
  5. Course curricula and syllabi, statement of teaching experience,or original copies of research projects.
  6. A list of concerts with a minimum of two public orchestral performances, including copies of concert programs, video files and links of live performances (concert dates valid between March 22,2019 and March 21, 2022). Candidate selected by thedepartment search committeewill be asked to provide ascholarly writing (or thesis) for the interpretation of the repertoire from one of the above concerts.
  7. Applicants applied as prize winners of international competitions are required to submit a minimum of three conducting concerts with no less than 60 minutes of music.
