This clinical faculty physician position will have a leadership role in the development of the University of Houston College of Medicine (UHCOM) rural health clerkship. This clinical faculty will be responsible for the development of the rural health clerkship curriculum, recruiting rural physician preceptors and practice sites, correspondence with the affiliated rural clinical sites, and direction of required student activities during the rotation. This position will also participate in the facilitation of team-based learning sessions and didactic sessions for medical students in other pre-clerkship medical school courses.

This clinician will also provide patient care at one of the UH affiliated clinical practices. During their time in clinic, this clinician will be responsible for the provision of chronic care management, acute care, and care coordination. This clinician will practice comprehensive primary care medicine including the provision of women’s health and some office-based procedures.

At this time, all faculty appointments in the College of Medicine are non-tenure track. The College of Medicine anticipates being able to make tenure track positions available for application in the future.

This position will report directly to the Chairman of the Clinical Sciences Department.

Specific duties include the following:

Primary Responsibilities:

Educational Mission (70%)
  • Develop the curriculum for the rural health clerkship and identify required clinical experiences.
  • Recruit additional clinical sites and clinicians for the rural health clerkship.
  • Correspond with the clinical sites and on-site medical staff throughout the student experience.
  • Precept medical students at a University of Houston College of Medicine affiliated clinical location.
Direct Patient Care (30%)
  • Evaluate and treat patients at the University of Houston College of Medicine affiliated clinical practice.
  • Provide input for the development of clinical protocols and guidelines for practice.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications :
  • Medical Licensure in the State of Texas
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Medicine-Pediatrics
  • Experience documenting with an electronic medical record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years clinical experience
  • Experience with inter-professional teams
  • Experience contributing to quality improvement projects
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic or Chinese
