The University of Houston College of Medicine (UHCOM) is recruiting for Family Medicine Residency Program Director to join the educational team of Founding Dean Stephen J. Spann, M.D., M.B.A. The inaugural class of 30 students began July 2020 and the second class of 30 began July 2021. The third class will increase in size to 60 students. Construction on a dedicated medical education building began in May 2020 and should be complete by July 2022.

Specific duties include the following:

Primary Responsibilities :
  • Maintenance of programmatic ACGME accreditation
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with affiliated institutions
  • Teaching and providing administrative oversight to the residents in the program
  • Recruitment of strong trainees and management of appropriate program growth
  • Development and operationalizing programs to grow efforts in diversity and inclusion
  • Involvement in personal and trainee scholarly activity
  • Mentoring of trainees and faculty
  • Providing feedback and development to teaching faculty
  • Assessment and evaluation of program curriculum, including clinical experiences
The HC/UHCOM Family Medicine program received initial accreditation July 1, 2018 and is based at HCA Houston Healthcare West. The program is approved for 30 trainees and will graduate its first class in 2022.

Qualifications :
  • Certification in Family Medicine by the ABFM
  • Licensed, or able to be licensed to practice by the Texas Medical Board
  • Three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience in an ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency program
  • Impeccable communication skills and strong team-building abilities
  • Commitment to the mission of the University of Houston College of Medicine
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in developing new ACGME-accredited training programs
  • National Institute of Program Director Development (NPDD) fellowship
  • Curriculum development and program evaluation in the area of graduate medical education
  • Experience with underserved patient populations
