Job Summary

The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Construction Management in the College of Engineering invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the level based on qualifications (Lecturer, Professor of Practice, or Professor of Instruction) starting August 2022 for our program in Houston, Texas at the Houston Engineering Center (HEC). The Construction Management program was moved to the College of Engineering in 2010 and since that time the enrollment in the department continues to grow along with the industry demand for our graduates and is offered on the main campus in Tyler, TX, as well as our satellite campus in Houston, TX. This position will be for a faculty member on the satellite campus in Houston, TX. The Houston metroplex has a great need for trained Construction and Project Managers in the ever-changing area of the built environment. The program is looking for an individual to join our dynamic team as we focus on educating, equipping, and encouraging the future leaders for the Construction and Project Management fields. This individual must be ready to provide relevant and exciting learning opportunities to a growing student body.

Essential Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level (as qualified).
  • Actively engage in internal and external professional service to include mentoring students in their professional development.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in construction or project management, construction engineering, or civil engineering, or in a closely related field, such as architecture, design, or construction/materials science.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • D.in Construction or Civil Engineering. Doctoral candidates will be considered but must complete all the requirements for the Ph.D. degree by July 1, 2022
  • Professional level recognition such as Licensed Professional Engineers, Certified Project Engineers, Certified Project Managers, Certified Professional Constructors and Project Management Professionals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, construction engineering, or civil engineering.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Background in construction and project management, general contracting, utility contracting, heavy civil construction, or consulting experience.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
