Job Summary

The BioFrontiers Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder is pleased to announce a Program Manager position for the newly established CU Boulder branch of the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome . The BioFrontiers Institute's mission is to push the frontier of interdisciplinary science to improve human health, which complements the Crnic Institute’s mission to significantly improve the lives of people with Down syndrome with advanced biomedical research. We are building a Down syndrome research community in Boulder that will collaborate work from multiple groups with the Anschutz Medical Campus Crnic Institute community. Research questions will focus on co-morbidities occurring in Down syndrome, and program goals include building a team of highly skilled post-docs, integrating research from the Boulder and Anschutz sites, and facilitating collaborative grants. We seek an individual with a history of interdisciplinary research and a talent for leadership and team management to coordinate this effort.

The BioFrontiers Institute integrates faculty from 11 departments to address significant problems at the interface of the biological sciences with computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering. The Crnic Institute, one of the only academic centers fully devoted to Down syndrome research, traverses the translational pipeline to enable precision medicine-based improvements in Down syndrome health outcomes. Together, we will make positive, lasting impacts on the lives of people with Down syndrome.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Research Program Coordination & Data Management
  • Manage the Boulder branch of the Crnic Institute’s research enterprise, working closely with Institute leadership, faculty, staff, and partners.
  • Participate in the recruitment of Sie Post-doctoral Fellows by developing job descriptions, serving on Search Committees, and scientifically evaluating applicants.
  • Work closely with Sie Post-doctoral Fellows as a scientific resource to troubleshoot experimental protocols.
  • Serve as a scientific hub to unite Sie Fellows as an integrated group.
  • Assist with data analysis and interpretation, especially in integrating data sets from multiple projects funded by the Crnic Institute.
  • Be responsible for research data organization, curation, and dissemination to quickly make data generated at the Boulder branch available and accessible to all researchers at the Boulder branch, the Anschutz Medical Center (AMC) main site, and external partners.
  • Identify, evaluate and propose new streams of research support from federal, state, foundation, and industrial resources for individual faculty, interdisciplinary teams, and research infrastructure.
  • Facilitate collaborative team-based projects, including sponsored research initiatives such as multi-PI proposals, center grants, infrastructure grants, etc. Identify resources and expertise needed for team projects. Find opportunities for the Institute and the researchers to participate in national and international efforts related to the advancement of Down syndrome research.
  • Represent the Boulder branch on research-related initiatives and committees. Serve as a liaison to the main Crnic Institute at AMC.
Leadership & Governance
  • Meet regularly with the Associate Director to coordinate activities and collaborate when appropriate.
  • Develop reports and presentations related to interdisciplinary research for the Steering Committee.
  • Planning strategically with the Budget for Research Program.
  • Develop a strategic plan, including programs and policies to fulfill the Crnic Institute’s research mission and support the faculty.
  • Provide support to the CU Boulder Crnic Institute Steering Committee and Associate Director on research issues.
  • Develop an annual budget for research development and faculty affairs/development, including resources for programs, events, visitors, tools, and resources.
  • Conceptualize and lead strategic research program planning, including grand challenge initiatives, planning strategically, retreats, chalk talks, seminars, symposia, and other research-related events.
  • Manage the development of the Institute’s research community, including the organization of frequent collaborative meetings across the Boulder and AMC branches.
  • Operational Data/Knowledge Management, Policy Development and Reporting.
  • Recommend, draft and implement new policies related to the development of the Down syndrome research enterprise.
  • Direct and oversee the collection, organization, analysis, and reporting of data about Institute research and faculty, including metrics for productivity, performance, and impact. Produce reports for leadership for use in assessment, planning, policy analysis, and decision-making.

What We Can Offer
  • The hiring range is $65,000-$75,000 annually.

  • Experience managing mouse colonies, experience working with induced pluripotent cell lines, and Down syndrome research experience will be given high consideration but is not required.
