Job Description

The Associate Director of Operations (ADO) is responsible for managing the daily business and communications operations of the Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) including, accounting functions, budgeting, reviewing contracts, outward-facing communications, website maintenance and developing presentation materials.

The position is primarily responsible for SCRI's accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, and budget tracking. The ADO must be available to work regularly with clients, vendors, and Siena staff to facilitate SCRI operations.  The ADO works closely with SCRI's Director to facilitate and enhance all aspects of SCRI's operations. In addition to financial responsibilities, the position is responsible for both internal and external communications including proofreading, editing, and dissemination of press releases and the development of presentation materials for clients and the media.  Finally, the position is responsible for basic website maintenance, posts, and page creating using WordPress.  Previous experience with WordPress is not required.

Founded in 1980 at Siena College in New York's Capital District, the Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) conducts regional, statewide and national surveys on business, economic, political, voter, social, academic and historical issues. The surveys include both expert and public opinion polls.

The results of SCRI surveys have been published in major regional and national newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, as well as in scholarly journals, books and encyclopedias (both print and online). Survey results are regularly featured on local and national television and radio and multiple online sources.

SCRI conducts the Siena New York Poll, a monthly snapshot poll of registered voters from throughout New York State on timely political topics, and the New York State Index of Consumer Sentiment, a quarterly look at New Yorkers' willingness to spend.

SCRI subscribes to the American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) Code of Professional Ethics and Practices.

SCRI is frequently commissioned to conduct surveys for organizations, businesses, and local and state government agencies.

Job Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial tracking, budgeting and purchasing.

Internal and external communications.

Press release dissemination and website development.

Development of presentation materials.

 

Minimum qualifications:

Minimum B.A. or B.S.

The applicant must develop an understanding of the ongoing operation of SCRI.  The applicant must be detail oriented and be comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment.  Experience in a higher education environment is preferred but not required.  The applicant should have the ability to multitask, and have some basic accounting or bookkeeping experience.  Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are necessary. Knowledge of Banner is preferred, but not required.

The ability to manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing of goods and services is required.  The applicant should be comfortable with both internal and external communications including reviewing and negotiating contracts with vendors and clients, proofreading, and professional formatting and layout of documents in a business setting.  Graphic design experience is not required, but knowledge of layout and formatting using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is necessary.  The applicant should possess basic knowledge about creating charts, tables and graphs using Microsoft products. 

Ideally, the applicant would know how to disseminate press releases using Constant Contact, but experience with Constant Contact is not required.  The ideal candidate would have some experience with web editing or design, however there is no requirement for previous web development experience.  Basic knowledge of WordPress is preferred but not required. 

A background screening will be required.
