The School of Education ( SOE ) at Loyola University Chicago invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position as clinical assistant professor of higher education and student affairs with a 1-year appointment with possibility for renewal. This individual will join the faculty in the SOE’s Higher Education program area, which runs which runs Loyola’s Master’s in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Master’s in International Higher Education, PhD in Higher Education, new EdD in Higher Education, and a certificate in Curriculum & Pedagogy.

The selected individual will play a key role in ongoing social justice initiatives shaped around the SOE’s conceptual framework and mission. We seek candidates who will collaborate with colleagues across the program, SOE, and larger university to contribute to and continuing to build programs that creates scholar-practitioners to be agents of change. Candidates will also demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice and equity in their teaching consistent with Loyola’s commitment to advancing social justice through transformative education.
The primary responsibilities of this position include the following:
  • Maintaining a 4/3 teaching load (the equivalent of seven three-hour courses or 21 credit hours) of graduate education courses. Courses in the program are offered in various modalities which include in-person, hybrid, online, and weekend intensive formats. Most in-person courses are taught at Loyola University Chicago’s Water Tower or Lakeshore campuses. The Higher Education program also runs an annual Study Abroad program in Rome, Italy at Loyola’s John Felice Rome Center.
  • Teaching a variety of courses such as student development theory, multiculturalism, assessment and evaluation in higher education, introduction to higher education, introduction to students affairs, and/or courses taught from critical or equity-based paradigms. Additionally, some courses are taught as a combination of master’s and doctoral students while courses may be only for specific degree-related cohorts of students.
  • Fulfilling the service responsibilities of a clinical professor, including advising of students, supporting continuous improvement processes, reading and advising students during their comprehensive exams or through the dissertation process. Further, candidates will be expected to participate in service responsibilities to the SOE, the larger university, community, and profession.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate in Higher Education and Student Affairs or other related fields
