Job Description:

The Media and Education Assistant Manager is a supportive position within the Museum's Digital Media Department that reports to the Digital Media and Strategic Initiatives Manager. The Digital Media Department enhances, maintains, and promotes the online environment of the museum, enriching FIT's academic programs, as part of its educational role to support FIT faculty and students and to encourage lifelong learning among diverse and inclusive audiences.

In addition to working with the Digital Media and Strategic Initiatives Manager, the candidate will work cross departmentally?with the Curators of Education, the Collections and Education Assistant, the Campus Exhibitions Coordinator, and the Manager of the Art and Design Gallery?to discover and institutionalize effective ways to provide support for and disseminate the collaborations between the museum and FIT academic departments, such as Art and Design, Business and Technology, and Liberal Arts. This also includes working as the primary liaison with Graduate students to promote their annual exhibition with an exhibition website and through social media.

The Media and Education Assistant Manager will assist with all digital communications about the museum's activities, including but not limited to digital learning and educational initiatives, website and social media marketing, exhibition websites and online projects, and audience development and engagement. It is the role of the Digital Media Department to support the museum's mission and to enrich the academic programs and strategic initiatives of the college.

The applicant must demonstrate proficiency in digital communications and technologies and have a strong interest in education so as to be able to engage with diverse audiences, from students to seniors, to support their lifelong learning goals. An understanding that media and technology enhances access to learning by accommodating a range of learning styles for different audiences is essential. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to create and edit websites through different Content Management Systems, be knowledgeable of web accessibility best practices, and manage audience engagement on various social media platforms. The candidate must also create graphics in order to maintain a consistent voice and visual brand for the museum across a variety of digital platforms. Video and sound editing a plus.

This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, a positive interpersonal and collaborative attitude, and strong multi-tasking capabilities. The applicant must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

This position requires some evening hours and includes data entry and other administrative tasks.

  • Promote the use of the museum's online collection and other resources for teaching, scholarship, and for student/faculty coursework.
  • Assist with the management of MFIT social media profiles to disseminate museum and college activities, including FIT student and faculty research on fashion. Post status updates, images, videos, and events on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Tumblr, and Pinterest.
  • Work as the primary liaison with Graduate students to promote their annual exhibition with an exhibition website and through social media. Must be able to teach best practices in web and social engagement.
  • Work with the Education department to design educational materials for online and in-gallery (lesson plans, gallery guides, etc) that maintain consistent MFIT branding and meet accessibility guidelines.
  • Work interdepartmentally with museum and college colleagues to produce and promote audio and visual educational assets, such as fashion history videos for professors, Fashion Culture educational video clips, in-gallery exhibition videos, exhibition pop quizzes, IGTV/Instastory videos, mobile tours, and podcasts.
  • Support the work on undergraduate coursework and initiatives managed by the Collections and Education Assistant.
  • Build and send email newsletters to the FIT community and beyond using an email client such as MyEmma.
  • Monitor, edit, maintain, and improve the MFIT web site using a CMS (Content Management System). MUST be able to read and write code (HTML and CSS)
  • Create new and edit existing exhibitions in a MFIT's custom Wordpress theme
  • Moderate online conversations to deepen audience engagement, drive interest, attract viewership, and deepen learning about fashion.
  • Manage and develop audience lists in a CRM system such as Salesforce
  • Produce analytics reports using Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Sprout Social and other listening tools.
  • Provide general administrative support to the department.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Two years of proven experience managing the media presence for a museum, educational institution, gallery, non-profit or other similar entity.
  • Must have proficiency with HTML and CSS
  • Must be able to create and edit branded graphics using Adobe InDesign and/or Photoshop
  • Ability to navigate a variety of software products and tools is required. (Databases, QR codes, iMovie, Garage Band, Survey Monkey, YouTube captioning, iPad settings, WordPress plugins, LinkTree, etc)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Adobe products
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to write for varied contexts, such as education, marketing, and social media, as well as for various learning levels and learning styles.
  • Scrupulous attention to detail in all aspects of work required.
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred. 
  •  One year managing social media accounts for a museum, educational institution, gallery, non-profit, or other similar entity.
  •  One year creating video and audio assets for an organization of any type.
  • Ability to create and edit video with Adobe Premiere or iMovie
  • Ability to create and edit audio files
  • Understanding of best practices in accessibility.
  • Fashion history or design history knowledge.
