Position Purpose: The front desk attendant welcomes and serves students and guests in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner, both face-to-face and on the phone. This individual is required to demonstrate good phone etiquette and computer skills; accurately handle cash and charges, and present a friendly and helpful demeanor.

  • Essential Job Functions:

  • Welcomes and serves students and guests in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner, both face-to-face and on the phone.
  • Makes independent judgments relating to customer service.
  • Receives, logs, and distributes campus mail and packages.
  • Maintains attractive displays, updates inventory, and sells items from the Campus Shop.
  • Handles cash and operates credit card terminal.
  • Handles incoming and interoffice phones and switchboard calls, utilizing good telephone etiquette. Transfers calls and follows up on messages.
  • Assists others to improve and streamline conferencing procedures and processes for the benefit of George Williams College and our students and guests.
  • Assists with setup and tear down of AV equipment for conference center groups and university events, including Commencement and Music by the Lake.
  • Assists with answering phone calls and selling tickets to Music by the Lake.
  • Assists with the implementation of the Campus Emergency Response Plan.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


  • Essential Job Requirements:

    Education:
    • High school diploma.
    Experience:
    • Previous experience in the hospitality industry or college environment is a plus.
    Skills:
    • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Sound judgment and discretionary skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with different types of personalities. Good phone etiquette.
    • Able to use and learn computer programs relevant to conferencing operations including Resort Data Program.
    • Ability to work with little supervision.
    • Must possess a customer service attitude and be outgoing while balancing the best interest of George Williams College.
    • Accurately handles cash and charges.
    Special Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
    • Able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to move about campus on hilly terrain and in inclement weather.
