CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Dickinson State University is pleased to announce openings for three complementary positions which will allow the institution to consolidate its role as the leading center of Theodore Roosevelt Studies in the United States and to claim a place at the forefront of History education in the West.
Rob & Melani Walton Endowed Chair in Theodore
Roosevelt Studies:
The Rob & Melani Walton Endowed Chair will give DSU a leading
role in critically analyzing the life and career of Theodore
Roosevelt. This position requires an understanding of and a
commitment to original research and publication, undergraduate
student success, and fruitful partnership with local, regional, and
national stakeholders. Strategic opportunities include
collaboration and partnership with the nearby Theodore Roosevelt
Presidential Library (slated to open in 2026); involvement with
DSU’s newly remodeled Pulver Hall (site of a museum exhibit space
and archives); connection to growing opportunities in Dickinson and
Medora, including Theodore Roosevelt National Park; and support for
Dickinson State’s evolving dual mission status.
Dennis & Vaune Johnson Endowed Chair in U.S.
History:
The Dennis & Vaune Johnson Endowed Chair position provides an
opportunity for its holder to undertake significant scholarly
initiatives at the departmental, university, and
extra-institutional level. Applicants are expected to have an
accomplished record of research and teaching in Gilded
Age/Progressive Era History. The successful applicant will be asked
to develop and teach undergraduate courses in modern U.S. History,
undertake service, participate actively in the life of the
department and university, and grow the major. We seek a colleague
whose teaching, research, mentorship, and leadership will
contribute diverse perspectives and experiences to departmental and
university initiatives.
Director of the Theodore Roosevelt
Center:
The Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Center will continue the
important work of digitizing historic documents connected to
Roosevelt and his world. This position serves as an ambassador for
the project, the coordinator of the annual TR Symposium, and the
lead in outreach to libraries, archives, museums, universities, and
other invested entities. The Director will have opportunities for
Roosevelt scholarship, both responding to external requests and
producing material for the Center.
The positions will be open until filled with the anticipation that successful candidates will start the Fall 2022 semester (August).
