The Office of DL Online Course Development at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement (full-time, 12 month) position. The Director of Community Outreach and Engagement serves as the manager and team lead for a distributed team of community engagement and outreach staff, both full-time and part-time, responsible for community outreach and engagement in defined market areas and associated with various partnerships maintained by the Office of Distance Learning. Manage the associated human and fiscal resources in support of the goals of this activity. Partner with Distance Learning’s Planning and Development staff to develop and implement a comprehensive, collaborative approach to managing community engagement and outreach activity. Engage with community leaders, leadership at partner locations, and others on behalf of ODU Distance Learning, and, as needed, the University at large, the school of Continuing Education and Professional Development or others from the main campus.  

Required Qualifications:  Master's degree or bachelor's degree with equivalent experience to a masters required in business, higher education, or related fields. Some experience leading and managing people and projects. Some experience in higher education required. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of constituents, for example: students, employees, community leaders. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to accomplish individual goals and contribute to team goals. Technical proficiency with computers, customer relationship management systems, and student information systems. Knowledge of higher education, enrollment services, advising services and student support services. Supervisory and leadership skills. Motivated, self-confident, and positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications: Some experience supporting students in online education.
