Position Summary

This position fulfills the duties of a painter.

Essential Job Functions of Position

As assigned or requested via work orders, remove old paint and finishes, fill holes or cracks, tape seams, sand rough spots, prime and seal new surfaces and apply paints, varnishes, stains, enamels and lacquers to redecorate or finish walls, woodwork, ceilings, metal parts, fixtures and other interior surfaces or light poles, signs, parking lots, handrails and other exterior surfaces.
Select materials appropriate to complete work assignments according to surfaces, locations and uses of items to be painted.
Mix ingredients for paints, stains or other finishes to obtain proper color harmony, consistency or finish.
Work with other facilities and University staff, offices, etc. to coordinate painting activities.
Identify and properly handle/dispose of hazardous materials.
Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
Record and document completed tasks using Computerized Maintenance Management System software.
Recommend work process improvements to Facilities supervisors and administrators.
Assist with general maintenance activities as assigned.
Maintain a professional, safe and clean work area.
Provide service support for campus events.
Snow removal duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Formal training in Painting.
5 years of experience working as a Painter.
Stable/continuous work history

Preferred:
Hazmat knowledge/training/experience.
Training in painting techniques.
4 years of experience in Building Trades.
Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of surface peculiarities and characteristics of common types of paint/finishes that provide durability, ease of handling and application.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Licenses, Certifications & Registrations

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record under University standards.

Additional Requirements (e.g. Physical Demands)

Ability to move and/or maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 50 pounds.
Ability to work from a ladder or lift.
Ability to respond to emergency service calls outside regularly scheduled work hours.
