Job Description

The Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) is continuously seeking
qualified candidates for adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Literacy. This includes daytime courses, school-based clinical courses, and online courses. Adjuncts are appointed for summer (mid-May to early August), fall (mid-August to mid-December) and spring (mid-January to mid-May) semesters. Appointments are for each semester as needed and are term, non-benefit, non-tenure-accruing positions. We seek applicants who have lived experience and/or track record for supporting students from historically marginalized groups (e.g. BIPOC, immigrant, gender or sexual identity, disability) in higher education.

The position begins as early as May 1 with a rolling process. The position is a semester-long, non-tenure track position, with possibility for renewal.

Major Responsibilities:
Teach courses on-campus, online, and in our Literacy Clinics located in our partner schools. Collaborate with department faculty.

Qualifications

-An earned graduate degree in Literacy/Reading or a closely related field or provide evidence that the degree will be completed prior to the start date of the appointment.
-Strong, explicit commitment to educational equity and social justice
-Professional background which includes demonstrated attention to the concerns of race, ethnicity, multilingualism, social class, gender, and disability
-Experience with working effectively with diverse students and communities
-Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
-Track record of successful teaching experience and/or partnerships with schools
-Knowledge of online learning development and delivery
-Successful teaching in K-12
-Successful experience facilitating professional learning with K-12 teachers
