Department of Early Childhood Education
Assistant Professor
Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECED) beginning August 2022. Doctoral degree in early childhood education, child development, curriculum and instruction, teacher education, or related fields. ABD applicants with on-going progress will be considered, if all degree requirements are complete by June 1, 2023. Commitment to excellence in teaching. Consistent commitment to working with public schools. Demonstrated success or potential to teach early childhood education courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. As we transition to a Research 2 university, the successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to develop a strong body of scholarship using an innovative, collaborative, or interdisciplinary research agenda. Applicants are expected to have three or more years’ experience working in public schools, a Head Start program, or other childcare setting. Applicants whose work incorporates a demonstrated commitment to issues of equity, inclusion, or social justice are particularly encouraged to apply. Faculty will be assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year, Undergraduate advising is part of teaching responsibilities. Scholarly research productivity, programmatic assessment activity, and service to the department, college, and university are expected. Faculty may teach on campus or at external locations. Candidates may be asked to teach in online and/or hybrid formats, and may have additional duties based upon applicant qualifications and departmental needs. Department of Biological Sciences
Research Assistant Professor
Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences with a planned transition to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Ph.D. in Biological Sciences by the term of appointment (Aug 17, 2022) is required. Strong candidates will have postdoctoral experience. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and excellence in teaching and demonstrated scholarly ability are required. Candidates must have a research background and expertise in the biomedical sciences (e.g., cell and molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, virology, physiology, and genetics). Strong candidates will have experience mentoring and supervising research students. The candidate must successfully complete a two-year fellowship as a Research Assistant Professor before the planned transition to a tenure-track position. The purpose of the Fellowship is to support promising scholars who are committed to diversity in academia. We particularly invite applications from members of groups historically underrepresented in the professoriate. The fellow will be appointed as a Research Assistant Professor for a two-year term. The position includes a competitive starting stipend, health benefits, laboratory and office space, and funds for conference travel, research supplies, and preparation of scholarly work. The fellow’s time will be devoted primarily to pursuing research but may also include participation in the National Science Foundation’s Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) PROMISE Academy Alliance ( – a program of professional development and mentorship to assist with the transition into a tenure-track position at Towson University. In addition, the fellow will teach one undergraduate (introductory, upper-level, graduate or research-based) course per year. Highly experienced research and teaching mentors will meet with the fellow regularly to provide guidance on developing a pedagogically sound teaching philosophy and plan and improving the skills needed to pursue an academic research career, including proposal and manuscript writing and technical presentation skills.
