Faculty, Tenure Track, Digital Cinema Production (Film and Television)

Summary:
Utah Valley University Department of Digital Media invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Cinematography for Cinema Production (Film and Television) to educate and prepare our students to excel in cinematography for narrative and documentary film and television, and other forms of media. This is a full-time faculty position with a competitive salary and benefits. Candidates must have professional-level experience working as a principal cinematographer, assistant camera, and with grip and electric departments for projects that have received major theatrical, streaming, television, or film festival recognition. Primary responsibility will be to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced cinematography classes and continue to develop a hands-on cinematography track in a film and television program. Responsibilities also include supervising senior capstone projects, working effectively with a team of colleagues, participating in university service, and developing elective courses in cinematography. Our rigorous and well-known Digital Cinema Program trains students receiving a BS or AAS in the development, production, and post-production process of film and media content for various platforms. Using a hands-on, practical approach, students learn the techniques, tools, software, and protocols used on film and television sets throughout the world. The curriculum focuses on creating character-driven stories, which involves hands-on teaching in emerging digital technologies to enhance cinematic storytelling. Advanced students can choose to focus their study on different skill-sets within the Digital Cinema Production process, which include: Directing, Writing, Cinematography, Producing, Post-Production, Documentary, and Sports Broadcasting. Our campus is located in Orem, Utah, less than an hour away from Salt Lake City and Park City, home of the Sundance Film Festival. Required Qualifications:
● An MFA (or Ph.D.) from a regionally accredited higher ed institution plus experience teaching at the university level: No exceptions.● Teaching experience: Our faculty needs to have some experience teaching part or full-time at the university level.● Current mastery and accomplishment in the cinematography industry. Our faculty need to have successful film/television industry careers. This means mastery in grip, electric skills, cinematography and lighting. Candidates have worked as DP’s on feature length work that has been exhibited commercially (theatrical releases, streaming, broadcast tv), at large film festivals (Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, AFI Film Festival, Toronto, Hot Docs,etc). Industry experience on IMDB needs to be within the past decade.

● Ability to conduct well-organized hands-on classes for a powerful learning experience
● Ability to design and execute innovative and dynamic curriculum● Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds● Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems on film and television sets● Ability to work effectively with professionals in the film and television industry● Ability to lead and mentor students to create projects demonstrating outstanding cinematic quality● Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively● Ability to manage a sound stage and equipment● Ability to bridge the professional gap from student to working professionals by introducing students to industry mentors, partners, internships, and externships

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred candidates will have at least seven years of active and consistent professional credits in the motion picture industry on projects that have been exhibited at major film festivals or that have been distributed widely.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to teach in a classroom, listen continuously.
