Summary/Objective

The Business Development Manager is responsible for managing Current’s subscription program and growing subscription revenue by marketing and selling individual and enterprise-wide subscriptions. The Business Development Manager extracts and analyzes user data from Current’s paywall, and crafts and implements marketing campaigns and special offers to nonsubscribers and lapsed/expired subscribers. Business Development Manager initiates and maintains contact with prospects and institutional subscribers in order to upsell them to the highest subscription level. Business Development Manager designs and implements donor fundraising campaign. Business Development manager develops and implements ideas for building subscriber/donor loyalty and revenues.

Essential Functions
  1. Sell subscriptions. Frequent prospecting calls to leads, utilizing internal resources to generate sales from enterprise customers. Arrange and execute email, telephone, Zoom and face-to-face contacts to promote our products to potential new customers and client engagement with current customers. Create a robust marketing testing schedule geared towards improving subscription adoption, increasing customer stickiness in subscriptions and raising subscription orders. Design, conduct and evaluate marketing experiments that improve subscriber retention rates. Ensure a high level of customer service which will involve updating clients on how to best use our products within their organizations. Manage and maintain monthly and quarterly pipeline. Develop ideas for subscriber engagement.
  2. Manage individual donor campaign(s).Plan and implement individual donor fundraising campaigns. Develop materials and messages to convert readers/subscribers into donors. Develop ideas for donor engagement.
  3. Collect and manage data.Using Salesforce, Mailchimp, Excel and Wallit paywall system, maintain accurate usable databases of subscribers and donors. Keep detailed records of client contact and correspondence on internal CRM system. Track data of performance of all campaigns and sales. Produce progress reports with metrics of key performance indicators.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent years of experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in sales role or similar position
  • Experience and strong skills with Excel, Salesforce or other CRM
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience
  • Previous experience in public media; understanding of the public media landscape and the customer base.
  • Previous sales experience in a B2B environment

  • Ability to present and negotiate at a senior level
  • Data-driven, organized, detail-oriented and analytical
  • Clear and concise communication skills (verbal and written)
