Position Details
The Office of Communications shines a spotlight on the people and programs of Wesleyan University to enhance its reputation as a leader in liberal education. In so doing, it serves as a partner with units across campus, providing expertise in brand management, strategic communication, media relations, digital and social media strategy, website development, content training and strategy, print and online publications and videography and photography.

As Manager of Video Production and Lead Video Producer, the position will create and implement the team’s annual video strategy in alignment with University goals and objectives, and establish clear distribution plans for all video content. Additionally, the Manager of Video Production will supervise all work of the video team, and ensure that new trends and video techniques are considered to ensure relevance, performance, and high-quality strategic video storytelling across our distribution channels.

The manager will lead and participate in all aspects of video production from ideation, pre-production and planning (script and storyboard) to scheduling and shooting, to post-production and editing, to final delivery of videos.

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Manager of Video Production & Lead Video Producer manages a team of video producers (including student interns) who work collaboratively within the Office of Communications to support the vision and goals of the university.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Create strategic video plans based on the goals of the university ensuring that all video projects are on message and on brand.
  • Create multi-channel distribution plans in collaboration with Strategic Communications and Digital Marketing
  • Create high-quality videos that enhance Wesleyan’s reputation, attract prospective students, and support development and fundraising activities
  • Mentor, lead, and challenge video team to push their creative boundaries.
  • Ensure that all staff has the direction, training, and resources to be successful in projects.
  • Work collaboratively to lead the content team to develop plans to distribute video content across all mediums.
  • Manage multiple video projects/schedules effectively while communicating progress clearly. Maintain accurate production schedules.
  • Transport and use DSLR and all video production equipment for studio and on-location shoots.
  • Edit and perform post-production tasks such as audio and color correction, creating title sequences, lower thirds and onscreen graphics and motion graphics for video programs.
  • Oversee, catalogs, and maintains library of raw video content and project assets.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging video technologies and platforms for use in future projects.
  • Participate in video initiative and policy planning with regard to use, deployment, sharing, archiving and storage of university assets.
  • Other duties as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of five years of experience in video production. Bachelor’s degree in film production, multimedia production, communications or a similar discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to guide strategically-oriented storytelling based on institutional priorities.
Some experience supervising others. Experience in creating strategic video plans and goal setting. Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with others. Experience with reporting on video analytics and making data informed decisions. Demonstrated experience with video editing, post-production, delivery platforms, closed captioning and software for encoding. Such software can include Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and YouTube. Experience with video production equipment including mirrorless/ DSLR cameras, lighting and audio. Ability to manage multiple video projects effectively and ability to work with project management tools.
Experience in the naming and archiving of video assets and materials. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening, weekends and holidays as needed. Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact professionally with individuals of different backgrounds Ability to meet the requirements of the job with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using motion graphics or animation tools. (For example, After Effects). FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.
