Non-tenure track faculty position, Research Associate Biostatistician candidate will devote primary effort to statistical consultation within the Johns Hopkins Biostatistics Center, the statistical practice arm of the world-renowned Department of Biostatistics. https://www.jhsph.edu/research/centers-and-institutes/johns-hopkins-biostatistics-center/

The candidate will provide biostatistical consultations to researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and external organizations. These consultations range from short in-person sessions to longer-term projects and focus on study design, sample size justification, reviewing of statistical approaches, data management, data visualization, programming, statistical analysis, reporting, and development of software, apps, or dashboards. Project-related final products generally include conference abstract submissions, grant applications, study-specific reporting, and scientific manuscripts.

About 20% of the position will be funded to provide statistical support for ophthalmology and eye research.

The candidate is expected to work as part of a team of data managers and biostatisticians under the supervision of a senior biostatistician consultant in the center. In this role the candidate will regularly interact and collaborate with a community of consultative statisticians and will have access to a variety of data sources, exposure to a broad range of substantive and methodological problems that address scientific and societal challenges. Master’s degree in biostatistics or statistics

Expertise with standard statistical packages, such as R, STATA and/or SAS

Experience in applied statistical analyses, including standard and advanced methods

Coursework and/or experience with longitudinal, multi-level/hierarchical data, survival analysis, methods for classification and prediction are a plus.

Experience with data wrangling, reproducible programming, and reporting (e.g. R Markdown, Sweave, Dyndoc, ODS)

Demonstrated excellence in statistical consulting, including interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, and self-management skills (multi-tasking, setting priorities)

Proficient at cross-disciplinary collaboration, and be able to adapt to new problems and challenges

Effective team player and ability to work independently

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
