Buena Vista University invites applications for the position of University Mental Health Counselor. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. This position is responsible for providing mental health services for BVU students at the Storm Lake campus. This is a direct service position that requires consultation, assessment, and counseling through individual and/or group sessions, on-call/after-hours rotation for crisis intervention, and educational programming. The counselor will work in collaboration with faculty and staff to provide appropriate support and guidance in the management of student behaviors and assist with intervention if needed. As a member of the Student Success staff, the University Mental Health Counselor will develop and implement proactive educational experiences to address the mental health needs of faculty, staff, and students.

A Master’s degree is required. Licensed Mental Health Counselor; Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker; Licensed Psychologist or the ability to obtain a license in the State of Iowa is required. The ability to supervise other mental health and/or substance abuse providers based on experience and/or licensure is preferred.
