COLLEGE LABORATORY ASSISTANT II

Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks full-time College Laboratory Assistant II. Under minimal supervision, this positions maintains the day-to-day functions of studio art facilities for disciplines including but not limited to photography, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, two-dimensional media, architecture and digital media. The position includes extensive, ongoing interaction with students, faculty, and staff and performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains studio art facilities in an orderly and clean manner
that ensures safety rules are followed.
- Supervises part-time support staff in all regards, including
but not limited to training and scheduling.
- Maintains a computerized inventory/checkout system for
equipment in all department labs with an emphasis in ceramics,
sculpture and printmaking.
- Creates requisitions, tracks shipments to storage and maintains
and delivers supplies for all areas of the Art department.
- Prepares ordering service for a complicated range of equipment
in Art department labs.
- Provides support to full-time and part-time faculty in the Art
department.
- Supports students when available and as necessary in the
various department labs.
- Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
- Performs related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school or the equivalent, supplemented by
two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of
training and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Considerable knowledge of art labs/studios or an equivalent
combination of training and experience.
- Experience working in an academic environment.
- Considerable knowledge of three or more of the following
disciplines: Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking,
Two-Dimensional Media, Architecture and Digital Media.
- Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of
subordinates.
- Must be computer proficient with knowledge of a variety of
software programs.
- Ability to instruct students on use of laboratory equipment
through use of strong organizational skills, supervisory skills and
good verbal communication.
- Ability to support students with instruction and
resources.
