Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks full-time College Laboratory Assistant II. Under minimal supervision, this positions maintains the day-to-day functions of studio art facilities for disciplines including but not limited to photography, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, two-dimensional media, architecture and digital media. The position includes extensive, ongoing interaction with students, faculty, and staff and performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains studio art facilities in an orderly and clean manner that ensures safety rules are followed.

  2. Supervises part-time support staff in all regards, including but not limited to training and scheduling.

  3. Maintains a computerized inventory/checkout system for equipment in all department labs with an emphasis in ceramics, sculpture and printmaking.

  4. Creates requisitions, tracks shipments to storage and maintains and delivers supplies for all areas of the Art department.

  5. Prepares ordering service for a complicated range of equipment in Art department labs.

  6. Provides support to full-time and part-time faculty in the Art department.

  7. Supports students when available and as necessary in the various department labs.

  8. Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.

  9. Performs related duties as required



QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from high school or the equivalent, supplemented by two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  2. Considerable knowledge of art labs/studios or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  3. Experience working in an academic environment.

  4. Considerable knowledge of three or more of the following disciplines: Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking, Two-Dimensional Media, Architecture and Digital Media.

  5. Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of subordinates.

  6. Must be computer proficient with knowledge of a variety of software programs.

  7. Ability to instruct students on use of laboratory equipment through use of strong organizational skills, supervisory skills and good verbal communication.

  8. Ability to support students with instruction and resources.

    • Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
