Job Description

The Department of Exercise Science in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the assistant/associate professor level. As an integral part of the Invest Syracuse initiative, this faculty position is one of several within a research cluster in the focus area of Healthy Aging. The faculty member hired into this position will build on our existing strengths in Healthy Aging and participate in an organized research cluster that spans multiple departments in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.

We encourage creative, dynamic, and passionate candidates with a Ph.D. in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related discipline, and a research focus in the area of aging (gerontology/geriatrics) to apply. We welcome applicants across the breadth of exercise science sub-disciplines – ranging from those working at the cellular/molecular level to those working at the applied/clinical and population level. Preference will be given to candidates who focus on exercise as a countermeasure to combat age-related loss of function (e.g., cognitive function, physical function) and/or age-related comorbidities (e.g., obesity, cardio-metabolic disease, sarcopenia). A collaborative multi-disciplinary approach to research that transects faculty interests in physical activity measurement, applied physiology, health disparities, chronic disease, and/or disability is desirable. Candidates should have or demonstrate the potential for an outstanding record of research accomplishments, publications, and extramural funding consistent with rank. The ideal candidate must also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, graduate student mentoring, undergraduate student advising, and professional service.
