Syracuse University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders welcomes applicants for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position in speech-language pathology in our MS- SLP and undergraduate BS- CSD programs. The 40-hour per week position will involve on-site supervision and training of graduate SLP students and undergraduate CSD students in the assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders for clients across the lifespan, as well provide direct clinical services through the Gebbie Clinic. The position also requires the teaching of one didactic course per year. The employee will participate in departmental meetings and duties, as well as clinical faculty meetings and may perform other duties as assigned by the clinic director. This position requires some limited evening hours.

Qualifications
Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology ( CCC - SLP ), current possession of or eligibility for a New York State License in Speech-Language Pathology, with a minimum of five years of experience as a speech-language pathologist. Meets the ASHA 2020 supervision requirements (or will meet the requirements upon hire).

Job Specific Qualifications
Individuals applying for this position should have:
  • Expertise in the assessment and treatment of several of the following areas that pertain to adult medical speech-language pathology: motor speech disorders, voice disorders, swallowing disorders, aphasia, head injury, and dementia.
  • Experience involving assessment and treatment with augmentative and alternative communication devices across the lifespan is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with clinical supervision and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and supervision. The department is interested in candidates who have the interpersonal skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues and community members.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse populations
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to collaborate well with the SLP team and faculty and staff of the Gebbie Clinic and the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Responsibilities
  • Supervise SLP graduate students in diagnostic and therapeutic services in the Gebbie Speech-Language Clinic. This includes pre-staff planning meetings, reviewing and editing clinical documentation, providing direct supervision to graduate students in accordance with ASHA or Medicare supervision requirements, provision of feedback and student evaluation.
  • Provide direct diagnostic and therapeutic services to clients as assigned.
  • Attend appropriate meetings and work collaboratively in department.
  • Engage in continuing education to stay current on best practices and fulfill and maintain state licensure and national certification.
  • Other clinical or administrative duties may be assigned.
