Job Description
Falk College – Sport Management department is seeking a part-time instructor to teach two sections of SPM 365 Sport Economics during the Spring 2022 semester. This course is designed to provide an economic foundation for the study of sports and to use modern-day data analytics to analyze sports in a variety of ways. The course also covers supply and demand in various sectors of the sport industry, discusses team and league governance, explores competitive balance and outcome uncertainty, investigates the sports labor market and player salary data, and examines ticket pricing strategies. The course serves as an introduction to visualization of data in both Excel and Tableau and utilizes visualization techniques to explore key sport industry topics.
Class dates: (1/12/22 – 5/4/22) Tuesday/Thursday, (M001) 3:30 pm – 4:50 pm & (M002) 5:00 pm – 6:20 pm. Office hours required.
Qualifications
Terminal degree in Sport Management or Business; or Bachelor’s degree with substantive industry experience (10+ years) in the economic foundation of sports and applied data analytics preferably in the sport industry, is required.
Job Specific Qualifications
A record of demonstrated teaching competence and scholarly accomplishment at the collegiate level is also preferred.
Responsibilities
• Developing or updating a class syllabus.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other class assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Meeting all designated class periods.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades accordingly to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
• Building a positive rapport with students, faculty and staff.
