Job Description

Syracuse University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Sport Analytics in the Department of Sport Management.

Teaching expectations include teaching courses at the graduate and/or undergraduate level; serving as a student academic advisor; the faculty member is expected to conduct an active program of research. Service to the school, college, university, and the profession is also expected. The Department of Sport Management is housed in the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. The Sport Analytics degree is an academically rigorous, business-based 126-credit hour curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree, the first of its kind in the nation. Qualifications

An earned doctorate in data science, analytics, statistics, mathematics, economics,
finance, or a related terminal degree is required. Required skills include proficiency in
modeling of relationships with sports data. A demonstrated excellence in research and
teaching is necessary for the position, along with a strong background and knowledge of
the sports industry. We are specifically searching for candidates with strong skills in Python and machine learning.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate instruction in the Sport Analytics degree programs. The ideal candidate will have strong mathematics and computer skills. Background and research interest in empirical modeling on the business-side, player/team-side, or both areas of the sports industry are essential to this position.

The ability to be able to teach and perform research on big data in sports using
Python, Machine Learning techniques, visualization, and other related programs and skills are essential to this position.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform individual and corroborative research important to the field.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will assist with academic student advising, including course selection and strategic career planning; become an active participant in research, scholarly activities, and community service; and effectively handle other responsibilities associated with being a tenured faculty member. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with other academic units and departments across the College, campus, and the local, regional, and national sport industry.
