Syracuse University School of Architecture—a top-ranked research institution that is committed to building a diverse, equal, and pluralistic faculty—seeks a dedicated, dynamic, and experienced leader for the newly created position of Associate Dean for Research ( ADR ) starting in the 2022-2023 academic year. The ADR will lead strategic efforts to promote and increase scholarship, creative work, and sponsored research in the School of Architecture; will assist in cultivating faculty research; and will work to develop innovative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial initiatives within the School. The ADR will work closely with faculty and administrators in the School as well as other departments at Syracuse University to identify government, corporate, foundation, and university funding opportunities that support the range of faculty expertise in technology, design, and the humanities. The ADR will foster interdisciplinary projects, be proactive in seeking new funding models, provide guidance in proposal development, help interpret sponsor guidelines and regulations, and act as a liaison to the University’s foundation and grants administrators. The ADR will promote greater integration of research, scholarship, and creative work across the School of Architecture’s domestic and international initiatives. Qualifications
The Associate Dean for Research is a full-time administrative, twelve-month, tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, with an administrative stipend, a reduced teaching load, and summer duties. The term of the initial ADR appointment will be three years with the possibility of renewal by mutual agreement. We encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups, and candidates with experience teaching and working with diverse communities and students. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in architecture, engineering, design, or related professions, and a record of distinguished research which can include built work, theoretical explorations, and creative work or scholarship in the form of grants, publications, and/or exhibitions. Candidates will possess a record of distinguished teaching and success in securing funding for research, scholarship, and/or creative work. Administrative experience in grants management as well as effective speaking, writing, and collaboration skills are required. A professional or terminal degree in architecture or a related field is required. In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the job description, the ADR will be expected to offer instruction in a well-defined area of expertise. Job Specific Qualifications

We will review applications on a rolling basis starting on November 12, 2021. Candidates should provide a letter of interest in which they identify their relevant strengths and experience as well as their personal research and accomplishments, a current CV, three references, and a statement of research administration. The committee may request a portfolio of research, publications, and/or design work. For the statement of research administration, please describe proposed strategies for energizing and coalescing research initiatives, and for working collaboratively with faculty and students with diverse interests and backgrounds including ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, and gender identity.
