Job Description:

OFFICIAL TITLE: Assistant Director, LGBTQ+ Resource Center and Deputy Title IX Coordinator
Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students

General Statement of Duties: Worcester State University's Strategic Plan outlines our aim to cultivate a vibrant campus life and a collaborative working and learning environment in which all members of our community feel welcomed, included, respected, empowered, and valued. The position contributes to the University's priority of building a culture of belonging through support, education, training, and social and educational programming.

The Coordinator for the LGBTQ+ Resource Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs. The center interfaces and collaborates with the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development, Counseling Center, Residence Life, and Student Organizations. The Coordinator is a member of the campus LGBTQ+ Advisory Group.

This position also assists the Director of Title IX as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The Coordinator is responsible for conducting investigations pertaining to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, Title IX and conduct. This position will produce comprehensive reports and appropriate correspondence regarding investigations and assists with post-investigation follow-up with affected students and/or employees/department/division.

  1. (E) Serves as a resource and referral agent of all students with particular attention to the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender nonconforming, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual/aromantic students.
  2. (E) Meets with the leadership of LGBTQ+ and allied student groups on a regular basis.
  3. (E) Coordinates outreach efforts to raise awareness of the various programs and resources available through the center.
  4. (E) Guides and advises students in creating programs that create a sense of belonging, and offers opportunities for personal growth and leadership development.
  5. (E) Helps create a safe space for LGBTQ+ students at WSU.
  6. (E) Supports the day-to-day function and oversees administration of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center.
  7. (E) Provides one-on-one support and resources for students dealing with identity development, navigating the coming out process, coping with campus climate concerns, struggling with academic demands, etc.
  8. (E) Refers students to campus supports such as Counseling Services, Title IX, Dean of Students Office, etc. when necessary.
  9. (E) Maintains and demonstrates awareness and understanding of advances and changes to Title IX.
  10. (E) Prepares investigatory reports, summarize findings, and recommend actions and/or changes.
  11. (E) Assists with preparations of regular reports to analyze investigatory actions over a specified period.
  12. (E) Thoroughly investigates claims of discrimination, harassment, Title IX and retaliation in a fair, impartial and timely manner.
  13. (E) Determines appropriate witness and evidence for complaints and investigations.
  14. (E) Meets with all appropriate parties and document investigatory meetings.
  15. (E) Provides analysis of statistical case data for annual reports related to incidents of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence. Assists in Annual Security Report (ASR) review and preparation.
  16. (E) Acts as the Title IX Coordinator as needed.
  17. (E) Provides expertise in developing, managing, and updating the university-wide trainings.
  18. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
  19. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
  20. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.
  21. Performs forms other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least one year of direct service experience with diverse populations.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working directly with LGBTQ+ identified and questioning individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and listening skills. Ability to maintain discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated success advancing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and in planning and implementing programs serving populations of students that are underrepresented, underserved, and/or who experience systemic and culturally based forms of bias and prejudice.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, students, staff, and school personnel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to successfully pass a thorough background check and CORI check.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Professional experience in higher education.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The firm starting annual salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with relevant professional experience and education.
