Position Overview:

We seek an assistant professor in rhetoric and composition to contribute to our growing programs and our commitments to community engagement, advocacy, and writing for social change. Must have experience teaching undergraduate courses in writing and/or rhetoric as well as a specialty area in one or more of the following areas: social justice rhetorics, multicultural and global rhetorics, or community literacy, with a preferred focus on race, equity, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will teach and collaboratively develop curriculum in a newly designed BA emphasis in writing, rhetoric, and technical communication and a recently redesigned MA program in rhetoric and composition. Candidate will teach and research at a university with commitment to retention efforts, support for first-generation and nontraditional college students, and the new Marilyn Shuler Human Rights Initiative which will provide education on human rights and teach the advocacy skills for advancing them.

In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to service within the department, university or community; interest, experience, and/or ability to promote diversity and inclusive excellence;interest in leadership in writing program development and initiatives; and commitment to ongoing professional development. Faculty are expected to develop and demonstrate twenty-first century teaching methodologies, including the integration of mobile learning devices and evidence-based instructional practices, and may be asked to teach online.

Minimum Qualifications:

    A Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition or a closely related field from a nationally or internationally accredited university. ABD candidates will be considered so long as degree is completed prior to August 15, 2018.

    Experience teaching writing and/or rhetoric at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

    Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

    Evidence of research/scholarly activity and potential.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience with and willingness to teach students across levels and majors.

    Experience with teaching online or willingness to teach online.
