PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE in MEDIA PRODUCING

The Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) at Georgia State University in Atlanta invites applications for a Professor of Practice position in Media Producing, to start in August 2022 pending final budget approval. We seek an individual with a nationally recognized record of achievement in the media industries, broadly defined (e.g., the candidate might bring experience as executive producer with expertise in production finance/logistics, cross platform content creation, television, streaming, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS: Position requires a minimum of 15 years of industry experience. Other advanced academic credentials are not required, given industry experience, though we welcome candidates who hold advanced degrees in a creative or media field. Applicants must have a thorough understanding of the creative and production pipeline in their sector of experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have classroom teaching or corporate training experience and a demonstrated passion for working with undergraduate and graduate students with technology interests. Candidates with a high degree of familiarity with some of the leading content creation software packages and production finance will be preferred.

DUTIES: The main duties include (1) a priority on working with colleagues to attract industrial collaborations and revenue-generating work to the Institute; (2) teaching in area of experience. Because of the expectation that Professors of Practice will remain engaged with content creation industries, CMII requires them to engage in commercially viable projects that include student participation, projects managed by the Institute Executive Director. Other potential work might include the supervision of student led projects, industry collaborations connected to the business of production and production pipelines, and active involvement in ongoing CMII administrative work.

Professors of Practice at Georgia State University connect nonprofit or corporate practitioners and accomplished executives to the more traditional academic work of a Research 1 university, including classroom instruction. This configuration enables CMII to attract exceptionally strong teachers and administrators who often bring extensive professional experience in the media and content creation industries, and to mentor new colleagues into classroom and student mentoring excellence.

CMII operates an advanced technology content creation center and offers undergraduate bachelor (BA/BS) degree programs in Game Design & Development and a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) in Media Entrepreneurship, as well as an MFA concentration in Virtual Production launching in Fall 2022. CMII employs research and teaching faculty, as well as industry-experienced Professors of Practice. CMII is an interdisciplinary unit in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of the Arts, created to develop 21st century storytellers prepared for work in the media and arts industries, to mentor students interested in entrepreneurship, and to develop research-connected industry partnerships.
