Job Description:

The Department of Neurology at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville, seeks two full-time faculty members at the tenure accruing level of Assistant Professor to join our team in affiliation with the UF Center for Health Equity and Engagement Research (CHEER).

This position will report directly to the Chairman of the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville.

The faculty candidate’s work should focus on research that advances wellness and health equity in the care of individuals with neurologic conditions. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to any aspect of diagnosis, prevention, or care among minority and/or health disparity populations, including sexual and gender minorities, racial/ethnic minorities, persons from lower socio-economic classes, persons with disabilities, and/or immigrants in the United States. In addition, research conducted in partnership with communities as well as patient centered research is highly encouraged.

Competitive candidates should have a record of research that reflects a strong potential for extramural funding. The candidate should also have a commitment to models of team-based interdisciplinary work.

In addition, the successful candidate is also expected to engage in research collaborations with other faculty members and trainees of the department and serve as an educational resource for research-related issues.

About the Department of Neurology

The Department of Neurology of the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville is among the largest providers of neurologic care in North Florida and provides professional services to the Neuroscience Institute at UF Health Jacksonville. Its faculty are nationally renowned experts in their fields of expertise who deliver world-class subspecialty neurologic care.

Our department boasts of a Neurointensive Care Unit, a DNV Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis Center certified by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, An ALS Association Certified Center of Excellence, a Level 4 NAEC-Certified Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, and an AASM-Accredited Sleep Lab.

Our department is responsible for the neurology education of third- and fourth-year medical students from the University of Florida and other medical schools. We also offer an ACGME-accredited neurology residency program as well as a vascular neurology fellowship program

Our department is involved in cutting-edge research and participates in multiple pharmaceutical, biotechnology-related, and federally-funded clinical trials. Several of our faculty members have been the recipients of researcher-initiated grants.

About the UF Center for Health Equity and Engagement Research (CHEER)

CHEER has a mission to combat inequities in health experienced by specific populations by conducting research to understand how, where, why, and for whom they arise and to then intervene on those factors. CHEER serves as the coordinating and supporting center for research focused on health equity, stakeholder engagement, and community health/population health improvement initiatives and evaluation research for both faculty and community based researchers.

About the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville

The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville is the largest of the three colleges at the Health Science Center Jacksonville. The college is affiliated with UF Health in Jacksonville, a health system comprised of two hospitals — the 603-bed UF Health Jacksonville and 92-bed UF Health North — and more than 60 primary and specialty care practices throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

The college's 16 clinical science departments house more than 440 faculty members, 1,560 staff and 384 residents and fellows, as well as medical students from UF and around the country. The campus houses a 16,000-square-foot clinical and translational research facility. To support faculty and resident research, the college has a Center for Data Solutions, offering researchers analytics, epidemiology and biostatistics support, and a Center for Research Training, helping develop the next generation of highly collaborative clinical researchers.
